How we work

You may have a few concerns about using an interior designer for the first time. Will they bully you into painting everything purple? Or insist on chucking out your favourite armchair?
Will you be stripped naked of homely clutter in favour of clean white lines?

Relax, having your home interior designed can be great fun – and you can remain firmly in the driving seat. "You probably spend more money on your house than on anything else so you may as well have fun doing it" says Gary. "And at the end of it you’ll have a groovy home that will stand the test of time."

Initial consultation
The first meeting is your opportunity to check that you gel with Gary, and for him to ask you about your requirements and personal tastes. As you give him the grand tour he may ask you the following:
■   What do you want to get out of the process?
■   Have you seen my work?
■   What are you aspiring to achieve?
■   What doesn’t work with your house right now?
■   What looks do you love, and what do you hate?
Gary’s job is to tease out the best of your ideas and build on them to create a home that reflects you at your most stylish.

Myth 1 : I’ll get someone else’s style foisted upon me...
Gary jokes that the only look he won’t do is wall-to-wall Victoriana. It’s all about you and interpreting your style to create a space you can relax in. Ask Gary what’s the secret of great interior design and he’ll tell you “rapport”. Gary’s breezy manner and pragmatic approach can help speed your project along with the minimum of hassle.

Myth 2 : It’ll be so hip it will need redoing every three years...
Many of Gary’s current assignments are refreshers for jobs he did 10 years ago. Often it’s just a case of a slight touch up and replacing soft furnishings. Since the focus is on quality fabrics, materials and craftsmanship your refurb will stand the test of time.

Myth 3 : I won’t get a moment’s peace...
Having builders in is always an inconvenience. But Gary is rather particular about who he recommends – craftsmanship and consideration are his watchwords. And Gary will be your go-between, translating your design needs into builder-speak.
